2024 CVAA PARENT & ATHLETE CODE OF CONDUCT

All parent and/or legal guardians and athletes must sign

It is imperative that all participants involved with CVAA understand and agree to abide by the guidelines set forth in this agreement. The best interest of the team will always be put ahead of the interest of an individual. Parent/child actions and behaviors can affect not only the individual child, but also the team as a whole.

Player Code of Conduct:
1. Encourage good sportsmanship on and off the field.
2. Be respectful to parents, coaches, teammates, opponents, and officials at all events.
3. It is my parent’s responsibility to notify the appropriate parties if I am going to miss any or part of a team function. (Excessive absences will be discussed with the parent via a parent meeting).
4. I will not be permitted to use my parent’s cell phone, without permission, or mine during practices, games and events. There are also times that the athlete’s cell phones will be in the possession of the coach and will not be readily accessible to athletes. You can always contact the coach if an emergency.
5. Be on time and attend every practice and game that I can, and work hard to improve my skills.
6. Refrain from using violence, profanity/curse words, or insults to others.
7. No bullying, teasing, or pranking of teammates.
8. Be generous when I win and gracious when I lose.

Parent/Guest Code of Conduct:
1. During events, please allow the team to prepare, cheer and perform without interruption. We need the athletes’ full attention to prepare and perform to our best ability. Your child needs to make sure he/she has everything he/she needs before the event. Parents should not need to bring items to their child.
2. If my child is frustrated with the program, coach, or teammates, I will support his/her need to vent to me.
3. I will provide positive support, care, and encouragement for my child participating by following the listed Parents’ Code of Ethics.
4. I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and other guests present at every game, practice, or event.
5. I will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parents such as booing and taunting; refusing to shake hands; or using profane language or gestures.
6. I will always spectate from the stands and will never enter the track, field, or gym without the consent of a coach, official, or medical personnel.
7. I will refrain from using amplified devices, loud music, or whistles during game days from the stands or within the stadium.
8. I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my child ahead of my personal opinions and/or desire to win.
9. I will refrain from ridiculing or yelling at my child or any other participants for making a mistake at any time regardless of the level of competition being played.
10. I will insist that my child plays in a safe and healthy environment.
11. I will respect and support all coaches and officials working with my child, in order to encourage a positive and enjoyable experience for all.
12. I will pledge to ensure a safe environment for my child and all others, that is free from drugs, tobacco, vaping, and alcohol. I will refrain from their use at all events.
13. I will remember that the game is for the development of the youth participants- not the adults or spectators.
14. I will do my very best to make youth sports fun for my child. I will not force my child to participate for my own gratification.
15. I will encourage my child to treat other players, coaches, participants, guests, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
16. I will help my child enjoy the experience of youth sports by what I can, such as being a respectful spectator.
17. I will listen and offer constructive comments to help them resolve the conflict himself/herself. It is important that we teach our athletes to handle things in a professional manner, not doing so can result in he said, she said and unwelcomed negativity.
18. If the athlete finds conflict with a teammate, I will encourage positive discussion between the athletes themselves. If it is not resolved, I will alert the coach.
19. I will refrain from escalating any situation my athlete is experiencing by talking to other members of the team, their parents, or the coach.
20. I understand that if my child is caught posting or sharing illicit pictures of himself/herself or others that he/she will be dismissed from the team. This includes pictures that involve illegal activity or those that are considered pornographic.
21. I understand that failure of my child to follow team rules and expectations may result in dismissal. I have read them and know that I will be notified by the board prior to dismissal.
22. I understand that all decisions made by the coaching staff will be final.
23. I understand that the benefit of an individual will not be put ahead of the benefit of the team.
24. When meeting with any coach, I will refrain from accusations and harmful language. I will speak with respect and consideration. Personal attacks of athletes, coaching staff, and administration will not be tolerated.
25. As a parent, I am able to speak for myself, and not the team as a whole.
26. I understand that it is necessary to have active parents involved with the program, and as a parent of an athlete I will help when needed and expected.
27. Please keep in mind that your presence at practice may be distracting to your child, other team members or the coach. If you are a distraction, you will be asked to leave.
28. I understand that the primary purpose of this program is to provide my child with a positive experience in which to learn good leadership skills, develop positive team relations and provide a positive learning environment to grow as athletes. However, there may be times when team members become frustrated with coaches and other team members. Please encourage them to come and talk to their coaches before the problem gets out of hand! In addition, team members and parents will not be persecuted for bringing problems to the attention of a coach in an appropriate manner and at an appropriate time.
29. I understand that is it my responsibility as the parent/legal guardian to pay all bills in a timely manner. If bills/volunteer hours are not paid/completed my child can be benched as a result.

Appropriate channels of communication:
1. First method of contact should always be an email for documentation and is to be used for all concerns, scheduling questions, etc. to respect the coach’s personal time.
2. I will wait 24 hours before contacting any football coach/cheer coordinators/cheer parent advisor if there is an incident or concern, unless there is a serious injury/incidence. Emotions often run high during a game, practice, competition or event, and a 24/48 hour waiting period gives both parties an opportunity to reflect on the issues at hand.
3. I will wait 24hours for a response. I will not send a second email until this time has passed.
4. All emails sent to the team or to all of the parents on the team will be sent by CVAA, coaches, parent advisors or team parents only. Mass emails to the team and parents to voice opinions and concerns are NOT appropriate and may result in consequences.
5. Any concerns brought forth must have factual documentation. ONLY your child will be discussed, not other members of the team.

The signature(s) below acknowledges that we have read and agree to abide by the rules and expectations set forth by CVAA. No refund of fees will be issued if disciplinary action is required that involves an ejection or suspension.
